Meet Our Principal
Mrs. Stacy Valencia
Stacy joined MUSD as the principal of Joshua Cowell Elementary School after spending much of her life in Stockton Unified School District where she attended as a student and served as an educator. Her goals for Joshua Cowell are to use Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to deepen collaboration, increase family engagement in the school community, and to further support the school’s English learners and students with disabilities access to core curriculum.
After graduating from Stockton’s Stagg High School, Stacy attended San Joaquin Delta College for two years. She then enrolled at California State University, Stanislaus where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies in 2000 and completed her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2001. She received a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and School Development as well as an Administrative Credential from Teachers College of San Joaquin in 2014.
Before serving as an Assistant Principal in SUSD, Stacy spent 16 years in the classroom teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grade, helping students navigate some of the most confusing and challenging years of their lives. She also taught and was the site coordinator for her school’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. In addition, she led AVID professional development at the site, district, and county level.
Stacy got married in 2020 and values spending time with her husband, family, and friends. In her free time, she likes to read, listen to music, and be outside. She also enjoys traveling and exploring and during school breaks, there is a good chance you will find her in Disneyland.
I believe strong relationships and meaningful experiences create a safe environment in which students are inspired to discover and use their potential.
