Good afternoon Cougars!

The next Cougar Community Club meeting is tomorrow, April 2nd at 5:30 pm in the library. Come learn about the fun activities planned for the end of the school year.

There is track practice tomorrow and Thursday from 2:15-3:30 pm. Students will meet in room 18. They need a change of clothes, shoes, and a signed permission slip to participate. Track Trials for 4th-6th grade athletes are next Monday, April 8th at Sierra High School.

Join our English Language Advisory Committee on Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. We’ll be sharing ideas about how to best support our students who are learning English.

8th grade families, the $25 payment for Great Wolf Lodge is due to the school office by April 12th. Please check your email for the 8th grade Activities Newsletter that was sent to families on March 18th for updates about 8th grade end of the year activities.

Good afternoon Cougars! 

Track practice for our 4th-8th grade ACORN Track Team is every Monday and Wednesday from 2:15-3:30 pm. Students will meet in room 18. They need a change of clothes, shoes, and a signed permission slip to participate.

Thursday, March 28th is a Minimum Day. There is no school Friday, March 29th and Monday, April 1st . Happy Easter!

Thursday is also Baseball Day. We invite our Cougars to wear a baseball shirt or the colors of their favorite team.

8th grade families, the $25 payment for Great Wolf Lodge is due to the school office by April 12th. Please check your email for the 8th grade Activities Newsletter that was sent to families on March 18th for updates about 8th grade end of the year activities.

Yearbooks are on sale for $20. Yearbooks can only be purchased online. Please visit yearbookcenter.com and enter the code 22110 to order. Online ordering closes March 30th. This is the last chance to order a yearbook. They will not be sold through the office.

3/18/2024 Good afternoon Cougars! Welcome back! We hope you had a restful and fun Spring Break! We’re excited to have our Cougars back on campus. There is a girls volleyball game Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Our 2nd Trimester Celebrations are Thursday in the cafeteria. Junior High is at 7:50 am. 4th, 5th, and 6th grades are at 8:25 am. 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades are at 9:00 am. Kindergarten is at 10:00 am. Families are welcome to join us. Please enter through the back door of the cafeteria. We kindly ask that you keep balloons in the back of the cafeteria to not block the view of others. We look forward to celebrating our Cougars with you! Friday, the Cougar Community Club is hosting a Spring Fling Family Dance. Preschool through 3rd grade families are welcome from 4:00-5:30 pm. 4th-6th grade families are welcome from 6:00-7:30 pm. Tickets are $5 for admission, 1 slice of pizza and a drink or $2 for admission only. Drinks and snacks will be available for sale at the dance. Pizza is pre-sale only. Students need a parent or adult to attend the dance. They cannot be dropped off. Come get your groove on! As a reminder, we expect our Cougars to be respectful, outstanding, accepting, and responsible students! Have a great week Cougars!

3/4/2024 Good afternoon Cougars! We are celebrating Read Across America week with Spirit Days. Tomorrow, we’ll celebrate that Reading Builds our Brains by wearing athletic wear. Wednesday, we’ll celebrate that Reading is Magical by wearing something Disney. Thursday we’ll celebrate that Reading Colors our World by wearing our favorite color. Friday we will celebrate that Reading Can Take us to New Places by wearing something that represents our favorite vacation spot. The next Cougar Community Club meeting is tomorrow at 2:15 pm in the library. Come learn how you can be involved! Calling all burrito lovers, Foil your dinner plans and stop by the Chipotle at 1442 Hulsey Way in Manteca for our fundraiser on Tuesday, March 05 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. We're raising money to support Cougar Community Club, so just download a flyer from the Joshua Cowell website or mention the fundraiser at checkout and they'll donate 33% of the proceeds to the cause! Can't wait to see you! Congratulations to our boys and girls volleyball teams. Both teams have made the playoffs. The boys will play their first round on Tuesday at 4:00 pm at Woodward. Students need a parent with them in order to attend the game. The 2nd trimester report cards will be sent home with students on Friday. Report cards will also be available to view on Parent Connect. Friday is a Minimum Day. Spring Break is next week, March 11th-15th. The school office will be closed. School resumes Monday, March 18th. Have a great week Cougars!

2/5/2024 Good afternoon Cougars! Our English Language Advisory Committee meeting is Wednesday, February 7th at 8:00 am in the cafeteria. Come learn how we are supporting our English Learners. The Cougar Community Club monthly meeting is tomorrow, February 6th at 2:15 pm in the library. Come hear the fun activities planned for the last half of the school year and how you may be able to help. 5th grade families, Science Camp registration packets and payment is due February 9th. Community Club is selling Kindness Grams before and afterschool at the table in front of the school. There are two options, a Valentine plush or Hershey Kisses and an artificial rose. Grams are $3 each and will be delivered to students on February 14th. There is volleyball practice Wednesday from 3:45-4:45 pm at Shasta. There are volleyball games on Tuesday and Thursday at Golden West. Boys play at 4:00 pm and girls at 5:00 pm. Students must have a parent with them to watch the game. There is no school Monday, February 12th due to Lincoln’s Birthday. Next week, February 13th-16th is Kindness Week. On Tuesday, February 13th Cougars will show we are wild about kindness by wearing animal print. On Wednesday, February 14th, we will show we are in love with being kind by wearing pink, red or white. On Thursday, February 15th we will show our character is one of a kind by dressing like our favorite character. On Friday, February 16th, we will kindly embrace differences by wearing two different socks, or mis-match shirt or pants. Have a great week Cougars!

1/29/2024 Good afternoon Cougars! Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band and choir will be performing in a Winter Concert on Tuesday, January 30th at 6:00 pm in the Joshua Cowell Cafeteria. Come support our musicians! There is volleyball practice on Wednesday from 2:45-3:45 pm at Shasta. We have a volleyball game on Thursday vs Shasta at Golden West. The boys play at 4:00 pm and the girls play at 5:00 pm. Students must be accompanied by a parent to watch the games. 1/15/2024 Good afternoon Cougars!

Manteca High School is hosting an 8th grade parent night on Wednesday, January 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Dorothy Mulvihill Theater.

We have ACORN volleyball preseason games this week. Tuesday’s game is at Golden West. Thursday’s game is at Lincoln. The boys play at 4:00 pm and the girls play at 5:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at gofan.co. Students who wish to watch the game need to have a parent with them to attend. Friday, January 19th , Community Club is hosting a junior high dance for our 7th and 8th grade students from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased in the office. Tickets will not be available at the door. This dance is for Joshua Cowell junior high students only. The week of January 22nd is Goal Setting Conference Week. If you have not signed up for a conference yet, please contact your child’s teacher. There will be minimum days every day that week.

If you will be enrolling a child for the 2024/2025 school year, please be aware that early registration will begin on Tuesday, January 16th and will close on March 1, 2024. By registering on January 16th, you will have the greatest chance of getting a new student a spot in our school next year, so please apply as soon as possible! Students who are new to the district will need to fill out a Pre-Enrollment through the MUSD website.  Once completed you will be contacted to set up an appointment.  Current Pre-school and TK students will need to turn in a Completed Registration Form and make an appointment to complete the registration.  All required documents will need to be brought to the appointment.

Additionally, Open Enrollment will also begin on January 16th. Open Enrollment allows you to apply to have your child attend a different MUSD school. For the first time, Open Enrollment forms will be completed online only using the MUSD website. All digital Open Enrollment forms must be submitted online by March 1. Visit www.mantecausd.net/registration to access the digital Open Enrollment form.

1/8/2023 Good afternoon Cougars! The next Community Club meeting is tomorrow, January 9th at 2:15 pm in the library. Come learn how to get involved with our parent club. There is volleyball practice Monday at Lincoln from 3:45-4:45 pm and Wednesday at Shasta from 2:45-3:45 pm. The next School Site Council Meeting is Thursday, January 11th at 2:15 pm in the library. All are welcome to attend. Friday, January 12th is a Minimum Day. There is no school Monday, January 15th due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

If you will be enrolling a child for the 2024/2025 school year, please be aware that early registration will begin on January 16 and will close on March 1, 2024. Good afternoon Cougars! We hope you had a wonderful Winter Break. We look forward to seeing all our Cougars on Thursday, January 4th. Please remember that we have two drop-off and pick up lines, one in the large parking lot and one in the small parking lot. Both are used as round-abouts. Do not leave your vehicle unattended in those lines. Also, please be mindful of our handicap parking and our nurses’ parking spot. Only those with proper signage should be parking in those spots. Please watch your speed in and around the school. Thank you for helping us keep all our students safe. The next Community Club meeting is Tuesday, January 9th at 2:15 pm in the library. Good afternoon Cougars! Winter Grams are on sale before and afterschool in front of the office. There are two options for Winter Grams: hot chocolate and marshmallows or a holiday craft. Grams are $3 each and will be delivered to students’ classrooms on Thursday. Community Club is hosting a Cocoa with Santa event on Wednesday, December 13th from 4:00-6:00 pm. Check your email to RSVP for the event. There is volleyball practice for boys and girls on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:45-3:45 pm at Shasta Elementary’s gym. Friday is Cozy Spirit Day. All of our Cougars are invited to wear their coziest clothes, pajamas included. Please no slippers, blankets, or stuffed animals. Friday is a Minimum Day. All UTK-8th grade students come to school at 7:40 am. Kindergarten dismisses at 11:45 am and UTK, 1st-8th  grades dismiss at 11:55 am. Winter Break is December 18th-January 3rd. 12/4/2023 Good afternoon Cougars! Remember to check the lost and found for lost items. The racks are outside the cafeteria gate from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Items left on the racks past December 15th will be donated over Winter Break. The next School Site Council meeting is Thursday, December 7th at 2:20 pm in the library. All are welcome to attend. Winter Grams are on sale for $3 each in the office before and after school. Your child will be bringing home an order form with an envelope if you’d like to purchase. Option 1 is for snowman soup and option 2 is a holiday craft. Grams will be delivered to students in their classrooms on December 14th. Community Club is hosting a Cocoa with Santa event on Wednesday, December 13th from 4:00-6:00 pm. Check your email to RSVP for the event.

11/27/2023 Good afternoon Cougars! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. On Wednesday, we are celebrating our Cougars at our Trimester 1 Celebration. 2nd and 3rd grades are at 8:00 am, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades are at 8:30 am. Junior high is at 9:00 am and UTK, kinder, and 1st grades are at 9:45 am. Students receiving awards should be bringing home an invitation for their families to join us. If you are joining us, please enter the cafeteria from the back door near the dumpsters. Balloons will need to stay at the back of the cafeteria and are not allowed in the classrooms. 11/20/2023 Good afternoon Cougars! Wednesday is a Minimum Day. All kindergarten students come at 7:40 am. Kinder dismisses at 11:45 am and all other grades dismiss at 11:55 am. There is no school Thursday and Friday due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We are thankful for all of our JC Cougars and wish you an enjoyable extended weekend. Have a great day Cougars!

Kindergarten, 2nd, 5th, and 8th grade students will participate in a hearing screening on Tuesday. 4th and 5th grade students who sold pies for the Science Camp fundraiser need to pick up their pies on Tuesday after school from the back door of the cafeteria. Join us for the English Language Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday at 8:00 am in the cafeteria. Trimester 1 report cards will be sent home Friday. The report card will also be available to view on Parent Connect. Students are encouraged to wear their Western wear on Friday for our Western Spirit Day. Have a great week, Cougars!

Thank you for all of the candy donations for the Harvest Festival and the Treats for Troops donations. We appreciate your generosity. 25 boxes were packed and sent to troops!

Good afternoon Cougars! On Tuesday, students may wear their costumes to school. Fake blood, masks, and weapons are not allowed. Thursday is our next school site council meeting at 2:20 pm in the school library. Friday, November 3rd is our Troop Packing Event. Families are welcome to join us at 8:00 am for a short program in our courtyard. This event is standing room only. We are also accepting items to pack and send to our troops. Students may bring items to their classrooms. There is basketball practice Wednesday and Friday from 5:15-6:30 pm for the girls and 6:15-7:15 pm for the boys, both at Lincoln Elementary’s gym. Good afternoon Cougars! This week is Red Ribbon Week. We are encouraging our students to be kind to their mind and stay drug free! Each day we have a spirit day this week. Tuesday is Team up against drugs-Sports Day. Wednesday is Friends don’t let friends do drugs-twin day. Thursday is Don’t let drugs mess you up-mismatch day. Friday is Say Boo to drugs-wear a Halloween shirt or orange or black. There is a Science Camp meeting for families of 5th grade students at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, October 24h in room 25. On Wednesday, our students will participate in a bus evacuation drill on campus. This is an event sponsored by our transportation department to promote bus riding safety. The ROAR Store is open before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for all grades. Please remind your child to put their ROAR Bucks in their backpack the night before. 8th grade families, please join us for our 8th grade Parent Meeting on Wednesday, October 25th at 5:00 pm in the cafeteria. We are accepting donations of bags of individually wrapped candy. Please drop off donations in the front office. Harvest Festival wristbands are on sale now for $10. Students will need wristbands to play games. Order your wristbands now because they will be $15 at the gate. There is basketball practice today, Wednesday and Friday from 5:15-6:30 pm for the girls and 6:15-7:15 pm for the boys, both at Lincoln Elementary’s gym. We have a game on Tuesday vs Golden West at Shasta. The boys play at 4:00 pm and the girls play at 5:00 pm. On Thursday, we play Lincoln at Shasta. Students must have a parent attend with them to be at the games. We are also accepting items for our Troop Packing event on November 3rd. Good afternoon Cougars! Wednesday, September 27th is a Minimum Day. All TK-8th grade students begin at 7:40 am. Kindergarten dismisses at 11:45 am and TK, 1st-8th grades dismiss at 11:55 am. Friday, September 29th is Dress Like your Favorite Singer Spirit Day. Students may come to school dressed up like their favorite musical artist or wear a shirt with their favorite singer on it. The ROAR Store is open before school in the library! Grade levels are assigned different days. Monday is 7th and 8th grades, Tuesday is for 3rd and 4th grades, Wednesday for TK and Kinder, Thursday for 1st and 2nd, and Friday for 5th and 6th grades. Students can take their ROAR bucks to the library on their grade level assigned days. If you are a parent of English Language Learners, Joshua Cowell would like to invite you to participate in our site English Learners Advisory Committee. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 27th at 8:00 a.m. in our Joshua Cowell cafeteria. Pie fundraiser starts Monday, October 2nd – October 20th for 4th and 5th grades to raise money for 5th grade Science Camp. Order forms will be coming home with your student this week. Pies are $17.00, students earn $5.00 per pie. Pies will be delivered to Joshua Cowell on November 14th for parent pick up. Don’t forget to order your JC Spirit Wear. Order forms are available in the office. The deadline to order is Friday. Cash only. Good afternoon Cougars! It was great to see so many of you last week for Goal Setting Conferences! We hope this helped you better understand what and how your child is doing at school. Thank you for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair! The proceeds help us get more books for our library! Picture Day is Tuesday, September 19th. Order online at leonardphoto.com by October 3rd for delivery to Joshua Cowell. Orders placed after October 4th will incur a shipping charge for home delivery. Don’t forget to order your JC Spirit Wear. Order forms are available in the office. The deadline to order is September 29th. Cash only. Good afternoon Cougars! This week is Goal Setting Conference week. Every day is a minimum day this week. If you have not scheduled a Goal Setting Conference with your child’s teacher, please contact them. The Scholastic Bookfair is happening this week in the library. The book fair will be open for families Monday through Thursday from 12:05 to 3:00 pm and Friday 12:05 to 1:30 pm. Students will visit the book fair with their class during the school day. You can set up an e-wallet for your child online at www.scholastic.com/bf/joshuacowellschool Manteca Unified Health Services is holding a free TB clinic for parent volunteers on Tuesday, September 12th from 2:00-4:00 pm at 311 East North Street. If you are interested in volunteering at JC, a TB screening is required. There is girls basketball practice today, Wednesday and Friday from 5:15-6:30 pm and boys basketball practice from 6:15-7:15 pm, both at Lincoln Elementary’s gym. The first Cougar Community Club meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 5th at 2:15 pm in the library. Come learn how you can help out at JC!

 

This Friday, September 8th is a minimum day. All kinders will come in the morning. Kindergarten will dismiss at 11:45 am and all other grades will dismiss at 11:55 am.

 

Next week, September 11th-15th is Goal Setting Conference week. Every day next week is a minimum day. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to schedule a Goal Setting Conference with you.

 

There is girls basketball practice on Wednesday and Friday from 5:15-6:30 pm and boys basketball practice from 6:15-7:15 pm, both at Lincoln Elementary’s gym. There are preseason basketball games on Tuesday at Golden West and Thursday at Lincoln. Girls play at 4:00 pm and boys play at 5:00 pm. This year, entry to the games is cashless. You will need to purchase tickets at GoFan.co. Search for Joshua Cowell and click on the game you want to attend. Do not redeem the tickets until you get to the game.

 MAP testing continues this week. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and charges their device the night before.

 Girls basketball practice will be today, Wednesday and Friday from 5:15-6:30 pm at Lincoln Elementary’s gym.

 There is no school Monday, September 4th due to the Labor Day holiday. Enjoy the three-day weekend!

 Fall picture day is September 19th. More information will be coming soon!

Good afternoon Cougars! If you are interested in serving on the Joshua Cowell School Site Council, please check your email and nominate yourself using the link that was sent out last Thursday. We need 4 parents to serve on the School Site Council this year. This week the fall MAP testing begins. MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress. It tells us what your child knows and guides us on what they need to know. Please make sure they get a good night’s sleep, charge their device the night before, and encourage them to do their best! Please join us on Thursday, August 24th at 8:00 am in the cafeteria for our Title I Parent Meeting. We will discuss how we are using our Title I funds this year. Friday is Vacation Flashback Friday. Students can wear something that shows off what they did during summer break. Girls basketball practice will be today, Wednesday and Friday from 5:15-6:30 pm at Lincoln Elementary’s gym. Any kind of medicine, even over the counter or cough drops, require a doctor’s note to be administered at school. Please remind your child to bring a water bottle and charged device daily. It is helpful to write your child’s name on all lunch bags, water bottles, and jackets. Have a great week Cougars!
